CHARLOTTE, North Carolina — September 21, 2020. On September 15, 2020, Mavendog’s President Jon Vordermark was invited to present at PMI Metrolina’s September chapter meeting.
PMI Metrolina was founded in 1985 with a membership of more than 1300 professionals. Over the years Metrolina has “established well-known and respected training programs in the area of project management and especially in the area of preparation for the Project Management Professional (PMP®) exam. Since its inception, the Chapter has provided a platform for monthly gatherings, where people of the project management profession can exchange views and network with other professionals.”
The group originally met in-person for the monthly chapter meetings through February 2020, but in light of COVID-19, have converted to a virtual meeting format.
“This is my third speaking event for the PMI Metrolina Chapter,” said Vordermark. “They are an incredibly well-run outfit, and from a public speaking forum standpoint, they are a welcoming and engaging audience of project practitioners and project sponsors.”
Mr. Vordermark shared how he started Mavendog because of his passion to promote project management as a more specialized service and leadership career. “It is a company tailored for complex and unconventional projects, which requires a deeper understanding of how to manage customer relationships.” His presentation outlined the concept and definition of a “customer” in a project leadership setting, the “dos and don’ts” of customer management, and the impact that a project manager’s customer management skills have on project success.

“My talk reinforces a Mavendog theme — namely, how do we as project leaders manage customer relationships for the purpose of delivering successful projects? The first thing we must do is understand and establish consensus on who the customer actually is. The answer a far more dynamic and complex than simply the individual who approves your project budget. I’ve seen many a project fail because of a fundamental misunderstanding of the ‘customer’.”
