CHARLOTTE, North Carolina—October 10, 2019. New this year is the connection with the local Charlotte Chapter of the Society for Information Management (or SIM). Our president and founder, Jon Vordermark, joined the organization in 2019. Jon has been a project leadership practitioner in the Charlotte area for 20 years, and many past colleagues are members and/or supporters of SIM.

“SIM has been a fun, welcoming, and invaluable group”, says Vordermark. “It’s a wonderful combination of Charlotte IT leaders from my past and the new, up-and-coming leaders of Charlotte’s IT future.”

As described by the SIM National: Since 1968, SIM has inspired the minds of the most prestigious IT leaders in the industry. Highly regarded as the premier network for IT leadership, SIM is a community of thought leaders who share experiences and rich intellectual capital, and who explore future IT direction.

“After just a short time as a new member,” continued Vordermark, “I am already better attuned to IT market trends, noble civic causes, and the amazing IT capabilities that are flourishing in this city.”

A huge aspect of SIM’s mission is their charitable involvement, where they support local community “give back” programs, such as SIM Women (i.e., women leaders in IT) and STEM Outreach. STEM’s aim (or the collective disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) is to help children build the skills, content knowledge, and fluency in these fields, and to ensure the best learning environments are available. As a part of their STEM fundraising efforts, SIM Charlotte holds an annual Charity Golf Tournament.

The 2019 tournament was held on October 8th at the Ballantyne Golf Club. “The 2019 SIM Golf Tournament was a huge success this year,” says Casey Zaitz, tournament coordinator. “With this being our signature fundraising event, we can continue to support our local STEM programs. There are too many people to thank, but it took a lot of hands to make this tournament a success, and we couldn’t have done it without our volunteers, sponsors, and Executive golfers. Looking forward to another successful tournament next year!”

Jon Vordermark was honored to be one of the tournament’s 30 SIM volunteers. “One of the best, well-run golf events I’ve ever seen and supported,” said Vordermark. “Kudos to all the fellow SIM volunteers. Most importantly, the financial results are amazing.” According to John Murdock, the SIM Charlotte Sponsorship Chair, the event boasted “100+ golfers representing 40+ companies and raised a record $90,000. All proceeds went to STEM initiatives in the Carolinas.”

We encourage everyone to sponsor and/or play. It would be an incredible feat to beat the record and crest $100,000 for STEM.
